Best Seafood Chowder in Portsmouth NH, Available Thursday and Friday only!
With all the restaurants in Seacoast NH, who would have thought the best bowl of seafood chowder would be served up at the Portsmouth Truck Stop, formerly Buzzy Hanscom’s Truck Stop on the Route 1 Bypass heading to Maine? A recipe created by Marilyn Hanscom, Buzzy late wife, it’s been a crowd pleaser for many years.
Lots of Scallops, shrimp, haddock and big chunks of lobster fill the bowl with a delectable mixture of cream, milk, butter, onion and a few secret spices. According to Kelly, the current chowder chef, she worked for Buzzy for 16 years, and is still making the delicious chowder for the new owners of the truck stop. The chowder is made on Thursdays, and is sold out by Friday. It’s a popular item among the drivers, and she said there are two weekly regulars that drive from Canada and Virginia to get a bowl.
With all the seafood in it, it’s affordable at just $10.00 for a 16 oz. container. Stop by this Thursday or Friday or you’ll have to wait another week to try it. You will be pleasantly surprised and might just become a regular like Joe from Canada and Elliott from Virginia.
From Portsmouth Traffic circle, take Route 1 Bypass North, truck stop is on the right, enjoy! 603-436-1682, 1010 US-1 By-Pass, Portsmouth NH 03801.
